At a time when Keith Urban was heating up the music charts, it should be no surprise that ‘Somebody Like You’ should be the first track of How To Lose A Guy…
While it’s not quite the same version you’d find on The Golden Road, this pop remix is definitely worthy and fits perfectly on this romantic comedy’s soundtrack.
It also sets the routine for the rest of the soundtrack with mostly modern rock tunes (‘Kiss Me’, ‘Feels Like Home’, and ‘Good Day’ infused with a couple of oldies ‘You're So Vain' and ‘Let’s Stay Together’).
I’ve got to admit that Sixpence The Richer and Chantal Kreviazuk had me almost wondering if I’d picked up the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack rather than How To Lose a Guy. Probably the most unoriginal songs of this album ‘Kiss Me’ and ‘Feels Like Home’ were already well over-played and over-used at the time of this release.
It would have been nicer if they’d used Sixpence’s version of ‘Don’t Dream Its Over’ instead of ‘Kiss Me’, as it would have fitted so much better. As for Chantal Kreviazuk, the talented singer has so many other songs that would have fitted just as perfectly on this album.
Despite some of the song selections, this is an enjoyable album, and suitably fitting the mood of the romantic comedy.
I give it 4/5
