In the 80’s a lot of fantastic soundtracks came out, and more often than not singer Kenny Loggins was on them.
Footloose was one movie he didn't figure stood a chance at the Box Office but opted to appear on the soundtrack either way. Not only did the album do well despite mixed reviews but it also made the soundtrack one of the hottest items to have in your CD collection.
It spawned the same-titled hit 'Footloose', which spent 4 weeks at #1 in the Billboard charts.
And it didn’t stop there. It also produced four more hit singles, but the single 'Footloose' was the real winner.
With its upbeat rhythm, and the rebellion call to kick off those Sunday shoes and cut footloose, it’s a real winner.
It’s one of those songs that make you want to cut loose and dance.
Another of the hit singles was Deniece Williams’ 'Let’s hear it for the boy', which pretty much is a song for the underdog.
One of the most outstanding songs on the album is the other hit single 'Holding out for a Hero'. It’s obvious from the moment this powerful song begins that Jim Steinman has had a hand in writing it, and producing it. Bonnie Tyler’sstrong vocals do this song proud, and it definitely is worth listening to.
Sammy Hagar’s 'The girl gets around'is another treat. His traditional vocals, and well written lyrics work together to bring about a song that rocks with strong guitar, strong vocals and a great beat.
The whole album is a treat, and a blast from the past. If you’re a soundtrack fanatic, like myself, and a lover of those classical 80 films, then this is one to definitely have in your collection.
Stand out songs: Dancing in the sheets, Footloose, Let’s here it for the boy, The girl gets around, Holding out for a hero…the list goes on.
The whole soundtrack is very 80’s but well worth listening to.
I give it 4/5
