This would have to be one of the best Movie soundtracks I own. With a variety of artists that
range from Marilyn Manson and Stabbing Westward to Muse and Phantom Planet, it has a variety of songs from yesterday covered by modern artists of today.
Kicking off the soundtrack is Manson with his cover of Soft Cell’s ‘Tainted Love’. This cover alone is a reason to buy this album. Manson is never one to shy away from covers (One of his earliest covers was of ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Eurthymics) and like his previous attempts he has made this song his own.
While many of the other songs have appeared on other albums – ‘The Metro’ by System Of A Down appeared on Dracula 2000’s soundtrack and Orgy’s ‘Blue Monday’ appeared on Candyass, this is the first time such a collection of great artists doing covers has appeared together.
Sadly the Smashing Pumpkins are one of the few disappointments on this album with their version of Depache Mode’s ‘Never Let Me Down’ whereas Weiland’s version of the latter’s song is another gem.
Other gems include Good Charlotte’s ‘If You Leave’, Goldfinger’s ’99 Red Balloons’ and Phantom Planet’s ‘Somebody’s Baby’.
If you’re a fan of 80’s music, and like to see modern artists reworking them to make them their own, then this album is definitely for you.
This is an enjoyable soundtrack with a strong collection of artists, and a great mix of songs from the 80’s.
I give it 4/5
