Just what the world needs, another U2 Greatest Hits album. Actually, apart from the fact
fans will probably hate another Greatest Hits album from their favorite band, this isn’t too bad.
Like the other Greatest Hits albums, U2 have whittled their back catalogue down to the bare basics, and pulled out a GH album that consists of their best stuff-their #1’s. This album is never going to be one that pleases everyone. Some fans will be disgruntled by the fact Zooropa and Pop were heavily overlooked when deciding on which songs to choose.
For new fans to U2, some who probably think U2 came out around the same time their vertigo ad, for I-Pod, this is album is perfect.
It does cement some of U2’s best songs, and admittingly, I am a fan of it, for the simple fact, it does have a lot of my favorite tracks on it.
The album sees U2 take on everything. From religion to the injustices of the American civil rights, and of course love and peace.
But does it do the U2 back catalogue justice? No, probably not, but then I have found that few Greatest Hits albums will do that.
I got this album as part of the DVD-CD package, which made it even more worthwhile. If you’re an older U2 fan you may find that the best way to get this album is at I-Tunes, for the simple fact it also comes with an extra track called 'Smile'.
That way you also have the choice just to download the new tracks 'The Saints Are Coming'and 'Window In The Skies', and chose which tracks you really felt should be on the album.
Personally, I was going to buy the album no matter what, because I simply can not resist my U2 fix.
Even as an older U2 fan, who wishes they'd pulled out some rare gems, I can't resist listening to this CD over and over again.
Listening to the likes of 'Pride', 'With Or Without You', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', and 'One', and it’s not hard to fall in love with U2 all over again.
There is something about this band, and their music, which will always be magical to me. It’s not just the way Bono sings, or the lyrics that are so beautifully crafted, but the way the band embrace their music as a whole.
Many of the songs are ones that people can relate to, have experienced, or who get caught up into.
Tracks not to be missed: 'One', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', 'Stuck In A Moment'(which got me from the line, I’m not afraid of anything and everything in this world, there is nothing you can throw at me that I haven’t already seen or heard.) Desire, andElevation.
