Tina Turner is a survivor. Becoming first known as part of the very successful duo act Ike and Tina Turner, Tina managed to tear herself away from an abusive husband and become one of the most successful female artists of all time.
Aptly titled the grandma of rock, this CD is a tribute to her contribution to the music industry for well over three decades.
Almost every song on this album, par for River Deep, Mountain High comes from after her split with Ike, and the kickstart of her solo career in 1983. In fact more than half of her debut solo album, Private Dancer, is represented on this album, and that’s definitely not a bad thing.
Tina’s voice has stood the test of time, and is as strong as ever. An iconic woman, hit songs such as 'What’s Love Got To Do With It', 'Private Dancer', 'The Best' and 'Better Be Good For Me'
Tina pays tribute to some of the greats, singing Al Green’s tune, 'Let’s Stay Together' and Ann Peebles, 'I Can't See The Rain', and does a reasonable job of it.
Tina pays tribute to her roots with the 90’s updated of 'Nutbush City Limits'. A very dancy track, it definitely deserves to be on this album, as does , River Deep, Mountain High one of the songs that kickstarted her career.
Tina’s songs show a gutsy woman, with lyrics that stamp her independence and show why she is simply the best.
Favorites on the album for me include: “The best”, “What’s love got to do with it?”, “Nutbush city limits”, “What you see is what you get”, “Typical Male”, and “Private Dancer”.
I give this album 4/5
