The Spill Canvas returned in 2007 with
their latest album, No Really, I’m Fine. Their first album since 2005's One Fell Swoop, there is a significant difference to their last two albums. Firstly there is a more mature sound that was lacking on their previous albums, and a much more professional sound to this album’s production.
While some fans may dislike the fact that their sound clearly cements the big-label production, the sound is still the same as lead singer Nick Thomas interweaves the Spill Canvas sound with the same timeless lyrics from their previous albums.

Lead vocalist Nick Thomas is known for keeping things simple. What I mean by this is that he calls it how he sees it. The first track ‘Reckless Abandonment’ talks about time moving so fast that you need to stop and kiss the ones you love and care what they think of you.
Some critics may find the lyrics of ‘Reckless Abandonment’ superficial and in some ways they are, however Thomas and co make up for this on ‘All over you’- the radio-friendly tune has the perfect ingredients of catchy rhythms, lush vocals, and expressive lyrics.
But then most of the Spill Canvas’ songs are like this. Their lyrics flow evenly, are descriptive, and have some kind of message that’s going to hit you right between the eyes or slowly creep into your subconscious.

It’s hard to really fit this band into one genre. Some may say that their more emotive songs make them just that Emo, but then there are the heavier, sarcastic rock tunes that could see them categorised as punk.
This time around there’s much rockier elements to their music but the heartfelt lyrics are still there.
The slower ballad ‘Saved’ shows that the band are still the same that produced One Fell Swoop, while tracks like ‘Battles’, with it’s pounding drums and catchy choruses show where they are going.

An infectious album that hopefully will allow The Spill Canvas to garner the recognition that they deserve instead of hiding in the shadows of the likes of Fallout Boy and Panic! At the Disco.

I give it 4/5
