Terri Clark is back with a new album, and while it’s another brilliant one for this country singer, there aren’t many surprises. She still sings the songs that have made her big- songs about dreams, lovers and of course heartbreak.
One thing I do love about Terri Clark is that she won’t be lumped into the pop genre like her female counterparts Faith Hill and Shania Twain.
'Life Goes On' and 'Damn Right'are as close to pop as she gets before she switches back to her traditional country style with her hit single, ‘She Didn’t Have Time'; a song about a single mother’s heartache, and survival.
The song is both poignant and beautiful, which makes it no surprise that it did become her first single.
The whole album is pure country, along with fiddles and guitars that keep you toe tapping, in the only way that country music can.
Terri Clark also contributes to the songwriting on this album, which gives her bonus points in my book. She writes three of the songs off this album, including 'Slow News Day', which takes a swipe at the media.
'Travellin Soul' shows a softer side to Clark’s voice, and is almost autobiographical, as she talks about all the things she has had to give up to establish her dreams. All in all Terri Clark hasn’t lost that cheekiness that she manages to establish in her songs, and her voice is as strong as ever.
Stand out songs: 'Damn Right', 'She Didn't Have Time', 'Not Enough Tequila', 'I Wish He’d Been Drinkin Whiskey', and 'Travelin Soul'
Life goes on is another example, with its ballads and upbeat songs, of how Terri Clark has cemented her place in Country music, and why she still continues to hold her own.
I give this album 4/5
