Record Label: Phantom Roc Records
Year: 2008
01. Airplane Home
02. Overnight Cowboy
03. Middle Of The Night
04. Shy Away

06. Dark Clouds
07. Reincarnated Cowboy
08. The Actor
09. Captain Of Your Ship
10. Gecko Tango
11. Pavement
Gregory John Patzner and Sharlene Ayestaran make up Rio Rocko, a band that can be described as modern country infused with Texas Swing, and Bluegrass with just a twist of Bakerfield, Latin and Island infusions.
There’s no doubt that this is a band that has taken a step away from country artists of today, and in doing so produced an album that ranges from swinging shuffles and two steps to ballads with the added twist of a tropical twist.
Each of the 11 tracks is heavy of melody and sings with tongue in cheek sass (‘Overnight Cowboy’ and ‘Gecko Tango’), as well as straight-forward country (‘Middle Of The Night’).
Their songs are as infectious as they are catchy, and with tunes such as the swinging ‘Airplane Home’, they’re bound to turn heads.
I’m not too sure about ‘Middle of The Night’ as their first single, as it hasn’t seemed to make any waves, but that’s not to say that they won’t leave an impact on the traditional and non-traditionalists.
An interesting album, and definitely not what I was expecting. If you love fiddles, steel guitar, and sassy fun-loving tracks then this album is definitely for you.
I give it 3/5
