Reba McEntire is one of the most influential country stars of today, and one of the most natural. Performing on this album, songs that have had a big influence in her own career, and songs she listened to when she was younger, she does it with such ease that she makes them her own.
I love Reba’s voice. Always have, and probably always will. She has such a strength, and such control of it, that she shines through every song she performs on. And on this album she is no different.
From the very first track to the last, Reba really does outdo herself. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does, and recruits the likes of Linda Davis, who she has sung with previously, to help her out on, 'On My Own'.
There are going to be country fans who hate her covering the songs of Parton and Rhonstadt, but that’s their choice. Personally I think she has helped bring new fans to old songs, and shows how diverse she can be as a country singer.
The tracks that drew me to this album were 'You’re No Good', and you keep me hanging on, which I’d heard previously but it was her version of Please Come To Boston that really made me fall in love with her music.
Songs to check out: 'Please Come To Boston', 'You’re No Good', 'You Keep Me Hangin On' and 'Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands'.
I give this CD 5/5
