When I got this album, I wasn’t too sure what to expect from Jimmy Buffett, as the only song I had heard of his, was 'Everybody's On The Phone', and had loved it. I was hoping the album would have the same feel to it, and boy, was I disappointed.
Having said that, one thing I will note it is that while his lyrics are deceptively breeze and sung in a laidback style that suits him, the lyrics show a shrewd commentor, and a man who is not at peace with the world. 'Everybody’s On The Phone', takes a potshot at those who rely heavily on our electronic world and party at the end of the world, takes a look at the threat of terrorism.
Having said that, save for a couple of songs, I found the album relatively dull. It’s almost as if Buffett is trying to hard to keep up with the younger generation of country singers by updating his own style, and to tell you the truth, he’s failing badly.
Only tracks worth listening to are the two mentioned. Cringe-worthy tracks are his take on 'Take The Weather With You', in which he destroys one of my favorite Crowded House songs.
I give this 1/5 and even that is stretching it.
