I feel in love with Fuel after hearing their song 'Bad Day', and wanted to find out more about the band. I ended up picking up this album and loved it from the beginning to the end.
One of the biggest problems with Fuel is that they came at a time too late. They will never be completely appreciated for their music for the simply fact they arrived after all the big grunge bands such as Nirvana and Soundgarden had begun to fade out, and when newer bands such as Nickelback, and Creed were arriving with their similar sounds.
It’s a shame too, as while they arrived late to the scene, it doesn’t tear us away from the fact that this debut CD is an example of their talent, not only as musicians but as songwriters too.
Their lead singer (at the time of the debut) Brett Scallions has a very distinctive voice, which is none more evident on 'Shimmer', which is probably one of their best known songs.
One of the things that I think made this band so distinctive to me was the talent that was obvious, as well as the chemistry between the band members, at the time.
Sadly the bad did not become as successful as they would have liked, and it would take a couple more years before another album was released. They would also part ways with Brett Scallion.
Songs not to miss; 'Sunburn' and 'Jesus Or A Gun'
I give it 3/5
