Enrique Iglesias burst onto the US
charts in 1999 with his hit track, Bailamos, which appeared in the film, Wild, Wild West. In an essence it was perfect timing for the singer, as it was just before the release of Rhythm Divine, and gave all of a taste to what to expect from the Latin singer.
And 'Rhythm Divine', does try and go further than that. Filled with romantic love ballads, and a fine intertwine of Latin beats and pop songs, this album is a sure fire winner for those sick of rap, rock, country and looking for some mainstream pop.
The fact that Enrique is the singer of legendary crooner, Julio and good looks, doesn’t help his record sales.
Taking all that away, he still has a relatively good voice, and has done quite well for himself in his native country, and knows how to market himself as a Latin singer. He came at the perfect time, when people were looking for someone that wasn’t Ricky Martin, and in the midst of a Latin Boom with the likes of J-Lo, and the aforementioned Ricky Martin also going strong.
Add to the album ballads with Celine Dion, who was at her peak at the time of this album’s release, and Whitney Houston doesn’t hurt the album either. He even does a relatively well job on the Springsteen classic, sad eyes.

Most guys will probably hate this album, and want to throw it out of a moving car, such as one of my exe’s, while their female counterparts may find this album hits the right spot.

Personally, I only like a couple of tracks, such as I have always loved you and rhythm divine. The album is a good one for a debut, but I admit I prefer his second English release, escape, which I felt had more substance, and of course had the smash hit, hero.

Worth getting? Probably only if you’re a fan.

I give it 2/5
