Creed-human clay
Record Label: wind-up
Year: 1999
Track listing:
01. Are you ready?
02. What if?
03. beautiful
04. say I
05. wrong way
06. faceless man
07. never die
08. arms wide open
09. higher
10. wash away those years
11. inside us all
12. young grow old
Creed’s lead singer Scott Stapp’s voice has a strong resemblance to Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, and it is never more apparent on this album.
This sophomore album is strongly reminscent of the 90’s grunge scene, which unfortunately seemed to already be on it’s way out when they emerged. However, luckily for them, the album still seemed to strike a chord in music fans, and it debuted at #1 when it first came out.
Strangely listening to it today, compared when I first brought the album, it does nothing for me. In fact the music bores the hell out of me, save for 'Higher' and 'With Arms Wide Open'.
But putting that aside, it is still a strong sophomore album from the band that went from nothing to something through hard work.
Loud guitars, strong vocals and deep riffs lead most people at first listen to believe this is an angry band performing, but if you listen to the lyrics more closer, it is the very opposite.
For it’s time period, I would have to say it definitely did come out as one of the best rock albums in the past ten years, and with songs like 'Beautiful', 'Arms Wide Open', and 'Higher' is not easy to see why the band was popular, and had such phenomenon success.
Definitely worth pulling out of the CD collection to listening to again, even if to reminisce over the bands that were in the late 90’s.
I give it 2.5
