This is probably one of Cher’s best albums, which is surprising for most to hear since when it debuted in the U.S, it hit the charts at #64. But it’s fantastic from the start to the finish. Cher’s cover of the Marc Cohn song 'Walking in Memphis' is beautiful, and fits her strong, husky voice exceptionally well.
Cher also covers Tina Turner’s 'Paradise is here' and 'The sun isn’t going to shine anymore' relatively well.
Every song has strong lyrics that suit Cher’s voice and her personality very well. 'Not enough love in the world' is another example of this.
I’m not saying that there aren’t any bad songs on this album. 'The Gunman' is terrible but it would have to be one of the only bad tracks on this album.
One thing that can be noted is that this album is certainly more softer than any of her other albums, and with producer Trevor Horn at the helm it should have been a hit.
It can be noted though that perhaps this album was a testing board for her step into dance and disco music, as some of the tracks do come across as being disco/dance tinged such as 'One by one'[/LINK, and 'Paradise is here'. Whatever it was supposed to be, it works.
For those who simply prefer Cher with no decoder to alter her beautiful, strong voice then this is the album for you.
I give this 4/5
