CMT Crossroads is a show that makes the almost unimaginable imaginable. Teaming up some country’s biggest names with genres that range from rock to pop to Blues, it’s a format that has been very successful. Among some of the most successful pairings are Maroon 5 and Sara Evans, Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson and ZZ Top and Brooks and Dunn.
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn team up with ZZ Top, a pairing that suits all involved very nicely. Zz Top are well known for their blues-orientated rock and have produced some stellar classics such as ‘Legs’ and ‘La Grange’ whereas Brooks and Dunn are at the top of their game, producing hit record after hit record, including their latest ‘Cowboy Town’.
CMT Crossroads see both Brooks and Dunn step up to the microphone for ‘She Loves My Automobile’ and ‘Rough Boy’ with ZZ Top adding their own unique grungy blues guitar sound to Brooks and Dunn’s ‘Good Girls Go To Heaven’ and ‘Hard Workin Man’.
ZZ Top share the vocals with Brooks and Dunn, adding their own vocals to the blues-riddled ‘La Grange’ and ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’. With ZZ Top on vocals, Brooks and Dunn put their own twist to both songs, adding a countrified feel with steel guitar, and fiddle.
A great pleasure to hear two very different bands getting together, and making enjoyable music.
Not to be missed: ‘Good Girls Go To Heaven’, ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’ and ‘She Loves My Automobile’.
I give it 3/5
