I’ve got a confession to make. The first time I heard this album I hated it. I really hated everything that it stood for.
But, I decided that I needed to give it another listen before I made it a matching coffee coaster to Van Halen’s 3 album.
It turns out that first impressions can be deceiving. I’ve gone from hating Little Bit Of Everything to loving it.
The album’s actually pretty good. All the songs are in the same style that can be found on Currington’s other two albums- fun, rollicky, and heartfelt with a twist of cheekiness.
Coming back from a career-threatening vocal ailment, Currington has thrown everything into this album. Co-producing and co-writing at least five of the eleven tracks, Currington has also teamed up with some of the best songwriters in the business that include Tony Martin, and Bryan Simpson.
One of the real pleasures of this album is that while some country artists feel the need to clutter their songs and overdo them, Currington prefers to do the very opposite. Instead each song has an easy going feel provided by the mid tempo ('No One Has Eyes Like You’. Throw in the fact that his booming voice is probably the clearest and most passionate it’s ever been, and you can’t help but enjoy the album.
Another pleasure is that not all the songs are about love ('Everything’), heartbreak ('Every Reason Not To Go’) or the typical country songs. Instead he’s thrown in songs about life, such as ‘People Are Crazy’ and ‘I Shall Return’. In Currington’s own words there’s a little bit of everything on this album.
While Currington is generically country, there’s also an added oomph to the album, and songs such as ‘Don’t’ have a real rock feel to them. It’s not enough for fans of Currington’s country feel to turn their backs on him, but allows to open the doors for new fans who prefer the crossover style that is popular for Faith Hill, The Dixie Chicks, and Shania Twain.
The real stand out track for me on this album is the Bobby Braddock co-written ‘People Are Crazy’, which should be released as a single, A song about wisdom, and performed in the laidback style of George Strait, with fiddles, and twanging guitars, it is a must listen.
Each song has been carefully chosen, and fits perfectly into the album.
Tracks not to miss: ‘I Shall Return’, ‘People Are Crazy’, ‘Life, Love and the Meaning Of’.
I give it 4/5
